A new season call to arms...

Bobbies,

Spring has nearly arrived, and the 2011 MLS campaign is less than twenty days away.  The BSG is working furiously to prepare for our home opener vs. the Portland Timbers on March 19th.  This is Portlands first match in the MLS, and we have the honor of hosting them for this epic event.  The "Timbers Army", Portlands premier supporters group will be bringing more than two hundred travelling fans to the match.  They will be loud and organized, so we need to rally all the troops for this one to proudly represent the Rapids as they begin their title defence .  I know I am personally counting down the days til we can get back out to the Terrace to support our team.  Our tailgate will be formidable, as we are expecting a crowd similar to the Conference Semi Final match last season.  Once again (since it brought us such good luck last season) we will be roasting a pig for our tailgate.  In addition we will be offering a vegetarian green chili and tortillas for our members that are not omnivorous.  I am happy to announce that in addition to our partnerships with Great Divide Brewing, Fullers, and Carlsberg, we have added Colorado Native and Strongbow for the 2011 season.  You will see a greater variety of beer (and cider) at our tailgates and on the buses this year.  We are organizing for five major road trips throughout the season (not including playoffs), and we expect to have more travelling support for the Rapids than ever before.  Our group is growing rapidly, and we should be able to provide an unparalleled level of support to our club and its fans in 2011.  I am looking forward to an incredible year of football and fun with all of you.  Cheers!

Membership Dues:  BSG Members, now is the time to get your annual dues paid for the 2011 season.  Just like last year the dues are $25 for a Burgundy Membership.  What does that entail?  As a Burgundy Member you receive a discounted rate on every bus trip and tailgate you participate in, as well as first dibs on special events and road trips.  It only takes three times riding the bus and you will have paid your membership dues back to yourself.  Our dues are really what facilitate the clubs ability to host epic tailgates and road trips for our members, and I cant stress enough how important it is to get involved.  Currently dues are being collected at the Bulldog (ask your bartender), and we are only accepting cash or check for the time being.   Our first tailgate will be pricey due to a number of one-off expenditures (as we are stepping up our game a bit), so I cant stress enough the importance of paying your dues in the most timely manner possible. Salt Lake Road Trip:  Last year the Salt Lake road trip was one of the highlights of the season.  The BSG will be travelling every year to support our boys as they face their archrivals, and it is our goal to provide the best experience possible for our travelling members.  This years trip falls midweek (Wed. 13th Apr.), which could make it difficult for some people to travel.  Because of this we are trying to gauge interest for doing another bus trip, and need to hear back from any of you that would like us to organize this option.  Last year the total cost for the bus trip, with hotel and match ticket included, was $125.  We dont expect that to change much if there are 40+ members that want to use this option.  It is important we hear back from you as soon as possible so we can begin to make arrangements.  The two alternative modes of transportation to Salt Lake are flying, and carpooling.  To fly we are expecting costs to be in the $225-$250 range for flight, hotel, and match ticket.  If you drive or carpool then you can still purchase your match ticket and hotel through the BSG.  Please let us know asap if you would like to see a bus trip organized! BSG Avalanche Game: Today is the last day to buy your discounted ($22) tickets for what promises to be a special night at the Pepsi Center. We plan to show the ice hockey crowd exactly how we support the Rapids with all our flags, banners & chants! The game (vs the Edmonton Oilers) faces-off at 8pm this Saturday, March 5th. We plan to meet at the Bulldog from 6pm in order to march at 6.30pm. For more details click here.
