Football Fans,

Our domestic league returns to action this third week of March, with our Colorado Rapids beginning their 2010 title defense Saturday night at home vs. MLS newcomers Portland.  I encourage anyone that loves the game of football to rally their friends and family to attend the Rapids kick off of their 2011 campaign.  The party starts before the game with a massive tailgate hosted by the Bulldog Supporters Group (buses are departing from the Bulldog @ 3:30pm and 4:30pm, you must RSVP to reserve a spot on the bus).  As a celebration of our Championship team we will be serving roast pig, vegetarian chili, and keg beer before the match in the West VIP lot adjacent to the Cantina at the south end of the ground (Walk ups are welcome to join the party).   We are also anticipating quite a few Timbers fans to join the fun, presenting a great opportunity to meet and mingle with other passionate Domestic football supporters.  Details of this event can be found on this link:   http://bulldogsupporters.com/events/detail.php?eventID=45 .  The BSGs home inside the ground is the Terrace located at the North end of the pitch.  Those of you that have not had a Terrace experience at a Rapids match are in for a treat, as we stand and sing for the full 90 minutes only a few feet behind the net.  This Terrace is the only one of its kind in Major League Soccer, and there is something quite special about vocally supporting your team.  The football has improved tremendously over the years, and if you are someone that loves the game but has not been out to support the Rapids, the time is now!

The weeks football starts long before Saturday night however, with second leg round of sixteen Champions League matches, MLS first kick, CONCACAF Champions League, and Europa League.  The action starts this afternoon with Manchester United hosting Marseille at Old Trafford.  The first leg saw a hard fought battle that ended in a 0-0 draw.  Man. U. is well aware that they did not get the all important away goal, which means they will have to win outright to advance.  Our other Champions League fixture of the day sees a rematch of last years Final with Bayern Munich playing host to Inter Milan.  Bayern seeks revenge for last years defeat in the Final, and they hold a 1-0 aggregate advantage compliments of striker Mario Gomez late strike in the first leg.  Tuesday night features an intriguing MLS match up, as Seattle face Los Angeles in the first kick of the 2011 season.

Wednesday has Chelsea taking on Copenhagen at home.  The Blues hold a comfortable 2-0 aggregate advantage, and seem to be finding their form again after a tough winter.  Our other Champions League fixture of the day has Real Madrid facing Lyon.  The aggregate score is 1-1, but Madrid is missing KaKa and possibly Ronaldo for this important fixture, leaving the door wide open for Lyon.

Two more English clubs ply their fortunes in the Europa League Thursday afternoon, with Manchester City facing Dynamo Kiev followed by Liverpool squaring off against Braga.

The weekend starts early Saturday morning with the return of English Premier League action, as Tottenham take on West Ham for our first match of the day.  Breakfast and Happy Hour will be available starting at 7am.  The nine AM slot has both Manchester United and Arsenal facing their respective opponents Bolton and West Brom.  Every match for these two clubs will be of the utmost importance, as one slip up could end up costing a chance at the EPL title.  Our late morning fixture sees American teammates Tim Howard and Clint Dempsey battling each other, with Everton hosting Fulham in a mid table clash.  Italian and Spanish football fill out the afternoon, and lead up to the bus departures for the Rapids opener.  Anyone attending the opener, or joining us for the tailgate will be able to register and pay throughout the day at the Bulldog (see Rich Bamber).  Reservations are preferred, but we should be able to handle a small amount of walk ups on the day.

Our football week concludes with a few Sunday fixtures.  The day starts with Sunderland v Liverpool, with the Bulldog opening at 7am.  This match is followed by a mouth watering fixture between Chelsea and Manchester City.  Both teams are fighting for Champions League football, and they are both still in the running for the EPL title.  Some good football and a top notch Bloody Mary is a sure way to conquer any hangover.  Hope to see you all at the Bully for a big football weekend!
