Friends of Football,
Things are really starting to heat up in the World of Football, as we close in on the culmination of the 2010/2011 European season, and start getting into the thick of the domestic campaign.  Anyone that made their way down to the Bulldog last Saturday for the FA Cup Semi and El Clasico (Round 1),  were privy to some great action on the pitch, and a crackling atmosphere in the bar.  This sets the stage for another massive week of derby matches, finals, and domestic league football that will surely not disappoint.

Wednesday sees our first feature matches of the week, with Tottenham hosting Arsenal in a North London derby to kick things off.  Tottenham is hungry for Champions League football again, and defeating their arch rivals at home would be a major boost for their side.  Arsenal, despite a fifteen game unbeaten run in the EPL, can not continue to drop points if they want any realistic shot at the title.  Both teams are coming off disappointing results from last week, and this should be a very hotly contested battle (The first half will be featured with volume in the main bar and on the shelf, second half will switch to the second big screen in the main bar with volume only on the shelf).  Our first Final of the day, the Spanish League Cup (or Copa Del Rey), takes center stage at 1:30pm. This is the second of four clashes between Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona over the next two weeks.  A tie on the weekend between these two clubs sets the stage for an epic encounter here, with silverware at stake for the winner.  This game is more than just football, its politics, pride, and a battle between two different philosophys!   To finish a big Wednesday at the Bulldog we have the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions League Final between Monterrey and Real Salt Lake (8pm).  No American club has competed in the CCL Final, and no American club has won a match on Mexican soil (0-19-2) to date.  Salt Lake, despite the fact that I normally loathe them, will be representing our Country and our Domestic League.  So it is with great trepidation that I say best of luck to our Rocky Mountain rivals.

Now on to talking about a much better club, our hometown Lads, the Colorado Rapids.  We all saw the highway robbery that occured last week in Salt Lake, where a well deserved draw was snatched out from under our noses by MLS "top" official.  It couldnt be more timely that many MLS players are speaking up about what the fans have always known, the officiating in the MLS is absolutely abysmal!   Not only was the call a steaming pile of rubbish (with only ten seconds left in stoppage time), but then to completely ignore a blatant offside infraction that resulted in the RSL goal was nothing short of a travesty.  FIFA has created a situation where officials are not held accountable for making dreadful mistakes or misinterpretations of the rules, and the MLS rewards these idiots for sub par performances time after time.  While Im at it, I would also like to point out that MLS officials are way to quick to book players and send them off.  Let em play, give em a talking to, and reserve the Reds for serious violent conduct.  A dangerous game to play to say the least, and plain and simple not good for the sport.  Ok, I feel better now.  Our Rapids take on Seattle this Friday night in a nationally televised match, and the Bulldog is hosting a pre game party and bus trip to the game ( http://bulldogsupporters.com/events/detail.php?eventID=66 ).  Join us on the Terrace at Dicks in support of our team, as they battle back after two tough road losses.  The Bulldog has Terrace tickets available at the bar for  only $15.  If you are interested in the bus trip and pre game party, follow the link and RSVP, we must have your reservation by Thursday at noon.  Now is the time to get out and support your team, lets fill the Terrace with loud passionate support, and have a ball while were doing it!
