This weeks football action from the Bulldog

Football Fans,

There is plenty to look forward to in the world of football this last week of April!  The action starts this afternoon, as Schalke hosts Manchester United in the first leg of the Champions League Semi Finals.  Schalkes prolific striker Raul will be difficult to handle, as he looks to break down Manchesters stalwart defense.  The German side has played well throughout the competition, and they will be a tough test for the English on their home ground.  Uniteds goalie, Edwin Van Der Sar, is playing in his seventh Champions League Semi Final.  It would be a fitting end to a tremendous career to see him advance to the Final.  This game is a lunchtime fixture at the Bulldog, kicking off at 12:45pm, and Peshawari chicken is on special for the big match.

Wednesday sees round three of the four El Clasico fixtures, and it seems the tide has turned in favor of the side from Madrid.  Real took home the Copa Del Rey trophy last week (which was subsequently dropped and crushed during the celebration http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXxSuzRpTps ), on a goal from Christiano Ronaldo in extra time.  Barcelona must now travel to Madrid for the first leg of the Semi Finals, with a depleted defensive corps.  Injuries to Milito, Adriano, and Puyol have left big question marks in the back for the Catalonians.  Coach Guardiola has vowed to continue playing the beautiful attacking style of football that has made them so successful over the past few years, but the question marks still remain.  Real, on the other hand, seem to be firing on all cylinders at just the right time, coming off the demolition of Valencia on the weekend.  Anyway you look at it this match will be epic, and our delicious Chicken Masala is the special of the day!

Our weekend at the Bulldog has some tantalizing match ups on the schedule.  Saturday morning we have six EPL teams in action in the 8am slot, and as the relegation battle heats up, so does the importance of each and every game.  The 10:30am fixture gives us a terrific London derby between Chelsea and Tottenham.  Chelsea is the only team that can still challenge Man. United for the title, and every game is a must win for them.  Tottenham are seeing their Champions League dreams slip away, and they need a positive result if they are to have any chance at returning to Europes most prestigious competition.  The afternoon and evening at the Bulldog will be all Colorado Rapids, as our boys try to bounce back from a third straight defeat.  They are facing Chicago, and should be able to end their drought here at home.  In case anyone was wondering how important Conor Casey is to the Rapids, just look at our goal tally since he has been injured.  We have scored exactly zero goals in the last three matches, lets hope for his speedy return!  The BSG will be hosting a tailgate and bus trip from the bar (3:30pm departure, reserve at www.bulldogsupporters.com), and as always will be loud and proud in support of our team.

Sunday morning the Bulldog will be open early (5am) for breakfast and the Liverpool v Newcastle fixture.  The Reds have had quite a resurgence since the beginning of the season, and should be a tough test for Newcastle.  Immediately following, at 7am, we have Arsenal playing host to Man. United.  This clash of rivals is always entertaining, and it falls perfectly in to our Sunday morning Happy Hour.  Arsenal, despite no longer being in contention for the EPL title, will try and play spoiler to the Red devils title hopes.  We finish our Sunday morning with Manchester City taking on West Ham.  City is playing to earn their berth in the Champions League next season, while West Ham are desperate to avoid relegation.  Hope you all can join us for what promises to be a great week of football!
