Bulldog Update - May 3rd 2011
Champions League semi-final week at the Bulldog!

May 3rd 2011
Football Fans,

The final installment of our four part series, El Clasico, commences this afternoon with Barcelona hosting Real Madrid.  Look for a wild match here, as Madrid must overcome a 2-0 deficit to have any hope of advancing.  Their chances will be slim in the hostile environs of the Nou Camp, but I wouldnt say this one is a foregone conclusion.  There has been plenty of controversy throughout this series of matches, and the accusations have been flying from both Clubs, adding plenty of fuel to the fire.  In our other Semi Final, Wednesday afternoon, Manchester United is expected to do their business at home against a Schalke side that forgot to show up in the first leg.  Man. U. will be wary of the Germans however, because it wasnt just luck that put them into the Semis.

Our Colorado Rapids have two away matches this first week of May, with the first falling on Wednesday evening (6:30pm ko).  They were able to apply the tourniquet and stop the bleeding at home last weekend vs. Chicago.  Now they will be seeking their first W in the last four matches against a Houston side that has displayed some good football this year.  The expected return of Conor Casey may help to reignite an offense that has looked less than stellar recently.  The Bulldog will be hosting its traditional viewing party, in addition to a viewing party at the Pioneer Bar down in DU.  If you live in the south part of town, stop in and enjoy the action (game will be played with volume & beer specials).  Saturday night the Rapids take on New England in another early evening match (5:30pm ko).  Prior to this game the Bulldog Supporters Group will be hosting a Kentucky Derby Party at the bar (2pm).  We are asking everyone to dress up, enjoy the race and some terrific Mint Juleps ($4), and then stick around for the Rapids match.  Should be a great party, and an excellent excuse to get dressed to the nines for some fun!

The weekend at the Bulldog, besides the Rapids Party, will be all about the EPL.  It is getting down to the nitty gritty, and the title race and relegation battle are both heating up.  Saturday morning brings us a number of matches with relegation implications, as well as the fight for European football.  Villa, West Ham, and Blackpool are all fighting to stay up, while City and Everton battle for Europe.  The highlight match of the weekend will be Sunday morning as Manchester United play host to Chelsea in what arguably could be the game of the year.  Man U dropped points last week, while Chelsea got a last minute winner to close the gap between the two teams.  The Blues sit only three points behind the Red Devils going into this one, and they hold the goal differential advantage.  A Chelsea win, and they are top of the table.  A Man U. victory, and they all but secure the title.  The atmosphere at the Bulldog will be tremendous for this one, so get in early to find a good spot!
