Football Fans,

Each year as the European football season culminates we look forward to the match that will decide the best team on the continent, and perhaps the World, the Champions League Final.  This years match up is one for the ages, with the most storied club in English football Manchester United facing the Spanish giants Barcelona!  A rematch of the 2009 Final, where Barcelona walked away with a 2-0 victory over their English counterparts.  The Red Devils will rely on their staunch defense and potent counterattack ( http://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/news/newsid=1621748.html ), but will have their hands full dealing with Barcas possession oriented attacking game ( http://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/news/newsid=1621435.html ).  One thing that may slightly favor Man. United is the venue for the Final.  The big game will be played in Wembley stadium, lending a bit of a home advantage to the English.  It will no doubt be a thrilling encounter, and the atmosphere will be tremendous throughout the day at the Pub.

The Bulldog will be hosting an all day street party in honor of this massive clash, with specials on beer and food throughout the day.  We have acquired the sidewalk and parking lane outside the Pub, and will be showing the match live from both inside and outside the Bulldog.  Our specials include $5 20oz pints of Carlsberg (inside) and $4 cans of Fullers London Pride, Fat Tire, and Heineken (outside).  We will also be serving $5 Chicken Masala wraps for the extent of the day.  Doors will open at 9am, with our regular Happy Hour in effect till 11am.  I would suggest coming early to find a spot in the pub, whilst enjoying some terrific HH libations.  At the conclusion of the Final, the party will spill out into the street (so bring your sunscreen), where a house DJ will light up the patio with a roots reggae vibe.  Our second Happy Hour of the day starts at three, right  when the match concludes, and will continue till we load the buses for the next big football match of the day, Colorado Rapids v Sporting K.C.  This is a home match with a seven pm kick off (6pm bus departure), and the Bulldog Supporters Group will be out in full force to support our hometown boys.  This Rapids game is a perfect compliment to a great day of football, so be sure to join us in support of our local club.  Details for this event can be found at http://www.bulldogsupporters.com/events/detail.php?eventID=84.

There are two other significant football events that are taking place this last week of May.  The first is tonight, when our Colorado Rapids face the New York Red Bulls away (6pm kick off).  The Bulldog is hosting an away game viewing party for this important away fixture.  The Rapids would like to continue their unbeaten run of five games, but this will be a very tough test against a N.Y. side that is in good form.  Colorados goal scoring mojo has all but disappeared of late, so someone is going to have to step up if they are going to manage a positive result away.  On the brighter side of things, the Rapids D has been staunch thanks in large part to the terrific goaltending of Matt Pickens.  We are looking forward to a great game here, against one of MLS better sides.

To wrap up our week of football we have a Monday (5/30) morning fixture of great importance, the Championship playoff match live from Wembley.  Swansea City face Reading to decide the final berth in the English Premiership for the 2011/12 season.  As many of you probably remember Reading was recently up in the Premier League for a short spell a few seasons ago.  Swansea on the other hand has not played first division football since 1982.  In fact they went as low as the fourth division, before fighting their way back up to the Championship.  This is sure to be a great battle, and the Bulldog will be open at 8am Monday morning to show this match live.
