Friends of Football,

It was a great Fourth of July weekend, and no matter what you did to celebrate, I hope you all had a great time.  This first week of July has plenty of top notch footy on tap, including the Womens World Cup, the Copa America tournament, the U-17 World Cup Final, and plenty of MLS.

Wednesday will be a huge day at the Bulldog, with the action starting early and continuing throughout the day.  The last games of the group stage for the Womens World Cup start our day, with Group D action kicking off at 10am.  Brazil look to be a lock to take top honors in Group D, so the big game for the morning will be Australia v Norway.  The winner of that encounter will grab second place, and a spot in the quarterfinals.  More importantly the USWNT kicks off against Sweden at 12:45pm to decide the winner for Group C.  Sweden is a difficult opponent for the USA, and they have proven as much by beating us in a friendly earlier this year.  The winner will face either Australia or Norway in the first quarterfinal match early Sunday morning (if the USWNT wins their group, the Bulldog will be open at 5am to show this game.  If they finish second we will tape delay the 5am match until 7am.) The loser books a date with Marta and the rest of the Brazilian squad for a 9:30am start.  If you have any questions relating to the start times for these matches, or anything relating to the British Bulldog in general, please reach out to Wendi Reed at toffeegirl8@gmail.com .  The Colorado Rapids will be bringing in the MLS Cup and putting it on display at the Bulldog from 2-7pm, as a lead up to their away encounter with Sporting K.C.  The trophy will be available to have your picture taken with it, and the first beer is on the Rapids (5pm-7pm) for any season ticket holders attending the pregame Happy Hour.  Other specials include $3 20oz Coors Light and $5 20oz Carlsbergs for the extent of the Rapids game.  The night will culminate with a Copa America fixture between Argentina and Colombia (upper shelf during the Rapids game), and two other domestic MLS clashes.

Copa America takes center stage Thursday and Friday at the Bulldog, which leads us into our Saturday fixtures.  The Bulldog will open at 10am Saturday morning for the WWC Quarterfinal match between England and France.  Both teams look solid, and this game should make for a great battle.  Directly following, WWC favorites Germany take on Japan in the other Quarterfinal.  Japan will have to put in an incredible effort if they are to get past the two time defending champion Germans.  The middle of our Saturday has two big Copa America matches scheduled.  First Brazil take on Paraguay, and then Ecuador face Venezuela in the mid afternoon.

Our Colorado Rapids are home again this Saturday, as we welcome the Vancouver Whitecaps for their first ever MLS game in Colorado.  Be sure to join the BSG for their bus trip/tailgate out to the park (3:30pm), info and reservations can be made at www.bulldogsupporters.com .  Former Rapids great Joe Cannon will be minding the nets for Vancouver.  Although Ill always love and respect Joe as a person and a player, I do hope we wallop the Whitecaps good and proper!

Sunday morning we return to Womens World Cup Quarterfinals, with a possible USWNT game early (see above).  Anyway you look at it both of Sundays WWC games will be terrific, with perennial favorites Brazil and the USA both in action.  Sunday mid day brings us a mouth watering fixture between Pacific Northwest rivals Portland and Seattle to round out a great weekend of football.  This is their second meeting this season, and the atmosphere will be elevated for this derby match.   Plenty of Seattle fans will be making the trek south to support their team, but dont expect Portland to give them any kind of a warm welcome.  Monday and Tuesday of next week both have Copa America fixtures to look forward to, and we have the Semi Finals and Finals of the Womens World Cup coming up as well.
