Feature Matches

The final two matchdays of Europa League football for theGroup stages takes place Wednesday and Thursday of this week.  In lieu ofwriting a novel about the myriad of possibilities for advancement, I haveidentified some of the key matches for us to enjoy.  On Wednesday ourhighlight match pits Fulham versus Odense. A victory for the Cottagers will ensure their advancement, as they battle WislaKrakow for the final spot in Group K.  If Wisla lose or draw theywill automatically be eliminated, and they face Group winners FC TwenteStoke City can win their group with a victory or draw, although theyare set to advance even with a loss.  Maccabi Haifa, fromIsrael, also find themselves in a must win position as they face Group Winner Schalkeat home.  Anderlecht take on Lokomotiv Moscowfor top spot in Group L to wrap up Wednesdays Footie.

Thursdays Europa League match of the day pits Celtic versusUdinese.  Celtic are trailing the Italians by three points, andonly a win away can see them through.  A tough test for the Scots, especially in hostile territory.  Tottenham are all buteliminated, and surely it would take a miracle to see them advance.  Theyhave a five goal difference to make up, and need a loss from RubinKazan to compliment what would have to be a resounding win forthem.  Birmingham City can still make the second roundwith a win and a Brugge loss.

English Premier League will be the feature both Saturday and Sundaymornings.  Four matches kick off with full coverage at 8am Saturdaymorning, and well see Everton, Fulham, andNewcastle all in action to start the day.  Chelseafollows up with an away fixture at Wigan in the 10:30am slot, hoping not to have a let down after their massive victory over City onMonday.  Saturday afternoon finishes with Sevilla hostingReal Madrid at 2pm.  Madrid will be hoping to bounce back afterbeing brought back to reality by the Catalonians this past Saturday.

Sunday starts early (5am), with the Queens Park Rangersplaying host to Manchester United in central London.  TheRed Devils could go top of the table with a victory, but QPR at home wont bean easy task for them.  Aston Villa play host toLiverpool in the 7am slot, which is a great prelude to our match ofthe week.  At 9am Manchester City face Arsenalin a clash of titans.  The Gunners have been on a terrific run, and shouldbe quite difficult for City to handle.  City are coming off their firstloss of the season, and will be keen to bounce back in resoundingfashion.  This should be an epic encounter between two great sides!
