Feature Matches
After a ten day layoff, our Colorado Rapids return to action this evening,  taking on D.C. United in the Nations Capital.  The Rapids have two of their regular starters out with injuries, defender Marvell Wynne, and striker Omar Cummings.  On a positive note for the Club, Conor Casey may get his first start of the campaign, and new Brazilian signing Edu is cleared to play.   Kickoff is set for 5:30pm, and the Lions will be rocking with Happy Hour in full effect for most of the match.
Saturday will be a massive football day for Denver, and Europe.  We start the day early with the Championship Playoff Final between Blackpool andWest Ham United.  At stake, promotion to the English Premier League for the 2012/13 campaign.  Touted as the richest club match in football, due to the enormous financial rewards associated with promotion, this is sure to be an epic clash.  The game kicks off at 8am MST, live from storied Wembley Stadium.  Both Blackpool and West Ham were relegated from the Prem last year, and will be keen to make their return to the top flight.  In their most recent encounter the Hammers battered Blackpool 4-1, but I would expect a much closer outcome here with everything at stake.  Nonetheless a great lead up to the Champions League Final.  Bayern Munich face Chelsea (12:45pm ko) to decide the Champion of Europe for 2011/12.  The match is to be played in Bayerns home stadium, which will be the first time a team in the CL Final has had home field advantage.  Captain Phillip Lahm, born and raised in Munich, knows this is a special opportunity for the Club and its fans.  Bayern has won four Champions League trophies in the past, but a win at home would be the coup de grace.  Chelsea has never won the Champions League, and the odds will be stacked against them.  The Blues have four key players suspended, and will have to rely on the depth of their squad to pull out an upset here.  There is added pressure/incentive for the West London Club because their only chance of returning to the Champions League next season is with a victory in the Final.  Peter Cech, who turns 30 the day after the game, has been a rock in the nets for Chelsea.  He will likely have to stand on his head again if he intends to celebrate an early Birthday present victory.  We have added three new TVs just for this match, to accommodate what is expected to be our largest crowd ever at the Three Lions.  Anyone interested in seating for the match, please get in early, as we expect standing room only by noon.
Directly following the conclusion of the Champions League Final the Bulldog Supporters Group ( ) will be running a bus trip/tailgate up to DSG for theColorado Rapids match against Sporting K.C.  After losing home and away in last years playoffs to Sporting the Rapids will be looking to get some revenge.  Join us in support of our Burgundy Boys as they play their second match of the week at home!
On the Horizon
Next week we have International Friendlies, including the USMNT preparing for World Cup Qualifying, and warm ups for most of the sides participating in Euro 2012.  In addition the Rapids will host Montreal for the first time ever next Saturday night at DSG.
