Feature Matches

The Champions League Final last Saturday was a terrific finale to a great 2011/12 in Europe.  Congrats to Chelsea for being crowned Club Champions of Europe for the first time ever.   There is still plenty of football to enjoy this week with International sides preparing for World Cup Qualifying and the European Cup, a full schedule of MLS matches, the Copa Del Rey Final in Spain, and the Quarterfinals of the Copa Libertadores (the Champions League of South America).

The action starts this afternoon with the 2nd leg of the Copa Libertadores Quarterfinals.   There are four teams from  Brazil, two from Argentina, and one each from Paraguay and Chile left in the competition.  The field will be whittled down to four Semi Finalists after today and tomorrows Quarterfinal matches.  On our domestic front, there is plenty of action taking place in the MLS.  A full slate of games kicks off at 5pm this evening, with many of the Rapids Western Conference rivals in action.

Friday at 2pm the Copa Del Rey Final kicks off with Athletic Bilbao taking on Barcelona.  Barca would love to finish, what can only be described as a disappointing season, with a bit of silverware.  Bilbao are a quality side, having knocked off English giants Man. United earlier in the year, on their way to the Europa League Final.  This should be a great match, and a perfect excuse for a late lunch at the Lions.

On the weekend Colorado will be at home to Montreal, with a 7pm kick off.  This will be the Rapids last home match until June 20th, when they face San Jose.  The Bulldog Supporters Group will be running buses from Three Lions, and hosting a tailgate out at the park.  Montreal is the MLS newest expansion side, and this will be their one and only visit to DSG this year.  If you arent heading to the Mountains this weekend, join the BSG in support of our Colorado Rapids this Saturday.

The Pub will be open early Saturday morning (7:30am) with full coverage of the days International Friendlies.  The morning starts with Denmark facing Brazil, and then in succession we have Ireland, Spain, the Netherlands, England, and Mexico all in action.  This leads us to our match of the day, the USMNT taking on Scotland in a tune up for World Cup Qualifying.  The match kicks off at 6pm, and this will be the USAs full International squad.  We finish the weekend with a couple more International Friendlies on Sunday, and a decent MLS match (SKC v San Jose).

On the Horizon

This will be a week of International Friendlies, with the highlight match of the week falling on Wednesday night.  The USMNT faces Brazil (6pm ko) live from Fed Ex field in Washington D.C., and then they play regional rivals Canada on the weekend.

European Cup 2012:  Preparations are being made for a top notch Euro 2012 party at the Three Lions.  The competition kicks off on Friday June 8th, and culminates Sunday July 1st.  The first eight days of the tournament we will be open at 7am, three hours before the first kick off.  Get in early as the vast majority of tables are first come first serve.  We have also made the addition of a private VIP lounge that is available for up to 25 people (contact Jon for more details).  We will be adding brand new televisions and tables to other areas of the Pub to help optimize every ones viewing experience for this massive event.  The Lions will be running beer specials throughout the tournament, and will feature every match live with volume. Be sure to join us for what promises to be an incredible month of World Football!
Formula 1:  Returns Sunday May 27th with the Monaco Grand Prix.  If anyone is interested in viewing this event live with full volume please contact Jon at .
Scarf Wall:  I am currently collecting soccer scarves from around the world for the Three Lions scarf wall.  If you have any old football scarves that are just sitting in a drawer, and you would like to see them displayed in the Pub, please bring them down. (Thank you to all of the folks that have already contributed!)
