World Football Update - Jun 5th 2012
Feature Matches

This Friday one of footballs most prestigious tournaments, the European Championship, kicks off live from host nations Poland and Ukraine.  With Europes best footballing countries all represented here, this could be any ones Championship to win.  The first eight days of the tournament bring us two matches a day, kicking off at 10am & 12:45pm MST, followed by four more days of group play kicking off at 12:45pm.  The second round begins June 21st and culminates on the 1st of July with the Final live from Kiev Ukraine (all second round matches kick off at 12:45pm MST).  The Lions will be opening every day three hours before kick off, serving a full breakfast menu, and offering $3 Bloody Marys and Mimosas.   We are taking reservations for our Tap Tables; however, the rest of the Pub is first come first served throughout the event (so get in early if you want a table).  In order to accommodate the standing room only crowds we are anticipating for the big matches, we are offering a special menu of hand held items, and we will be clearing the area in front of the main bar.  Draught beer specials include 20oz pints of Carlsberg ($5), Estrella Damm ($6) and all of our Fullers Ales ($6), these will be available from open to close throughout the course of the event.  We are asking any of our patrons that support a particular National team to wear colors, and bring any flags or banners they would like to have displayed during their teams matches.  Poland starts the party Friday morning against Greece, live from the friendly confines of Warsaw.  Later in the afternoon Russia will face regional foe Czech Republic

In addition to all the action from Europe, our USMNT and our Colorado Rapids, both take to the pitch this week.  The Rapids travel to Livestrong park this evening to take onSporting K.C. in a knockout U.S. Open Cup match.  This game will be live streamed from the Pub with a 6:30pm kick off.  This could be sweet revenge for the playoff ousting K.C. delivered to us last season.  The USMNT will begin their Qualifying Campaign for the 2014 World Cup this Friday when they take on Antigua Barbuda at 5pm.  This match follows the days European Cup action, and falls perfectly into our Happy Hour.  A terrific way to start a great footballing weekend.

Saturday the "Group of Death" features, with the Netherlands taking onDenmark, and Germany facing Portugal.  Whichever two sides make it out of this group, they will be expected to advance far into the competition.  Sunday brings us tournament favorites Spain against a troubled Italian side, and a fiery Croatia against anIreland side that has not lost in 14 matches.  Anyway you slice it the weekends action will be top class.

On the Horizon

The European Championship continues with two games a day all of next week, the USMNT face Gautemala in a World Cup Qualifier, and the Rapids travel to British Colombia to take on the Vancouver Whitecaps.  The MLS will have a full schedule of games throughout the week, and more World Cup Qualifiers will be on tap.
