Feature Matches
The USMNT travels to Central America to take on Guatemala in their second World Cup Qualifier of the campaign (kick off 8pm MST).  A hostile environment is par for the course when our boys head south of the border, and Guatemala will be no different.  They suffered a defeat in their first qualifying match to Jamaica, and will be keen to get a result against their neighbors from the north.  The U.S. must stay focused, knowing that a win here will put them atop the group, and in a very strong position to move forward in qualifying.  This match is a pay per view event, and the Three Lions will be collecting $5 at the door to help offset the costs associated with carrying it.
The European Championship is in full swing, and the first four days brought us some terrific football.  A handful of upsets have ramped up the pressure, as the second matches of the Group Stage kick off today.  TheCzech Republic already has their back against the wall, as they face a resilientGreek side this morning.  Group favorites, Russia, take onPoland in this afternoons matchup.  The Poles know a result here will likely be a ticket to the Quarterfinals, while a loss or tie leaves them in a fairly precarious position.
Wednesday brings us the second round of matches in the vaunted "Group of Death". Denmarks surprise victory over the Netherlands means they will advance from the group stage with a win over Portugal.  The Dutch have a much more difficult task at hand needing a tie or win against theGermans to stay alive.  These two countries are "old friends", making this one of the most highly anticipated matches of the tournament.
Thursday morning Italy takes on Croatia in the 10am slot, followed by Spain vIreland in the afternoon.  Spain and Italy decided to play it safe against one another, with both sides seemingly pleased to come away with a draw.  Italy probably has the tougher test on the day, as Croatia looked very strong in their first match.  The Irish on the other hand looked a bit discombobulated in their first game, and barring a miracle will likely be eliminated when the meet the Spanish.
Ukraine pulled off a great upset against the Swedes on Monday, giving them a massive boost toward advancing to the Quarterfinals.  They take on France in the 10am slot Friday morning, and could very well play the spoiler for a French team that is expected to do well at the EUROs.  England played a conservative game against the French, and were happy to walk away with a tie.  Unfortunately for them they are going to run up against aSwedish side that desperately needs a win.  This should be a great battle, and will ring in our weekend with a 12:45pm Friday kick off.
The third round of the group stage has all the matches kicking off simultaneously with a 12:45pm start time.  This means we will be opening the Pub a bit later (9:30am) moving forward in the tournament.  These matches will decide who moves on to the Quarters, and who goes home with their hopes dashed.
The weekend also brings us plenty of MLS action, as the series returns from a two week hiatus (for most clubs).  The highlight match will be our ColoradoRapids travelling to British Colombia to take on theVancouver Whitecaps.  These two teams are side by side in the table, and these points will be very valuable moving into the second half of the campaign.  The Lions will be hosting an away game viewing party Saturday night, with the kick off set for 5pm.
On the Horizon
The final group stage matches, and the Quarterfinals, of the European Championship are on the books.  In addition the Colorado Rapids return mid week for a home match against Western Conference foes San Jose.
