World Football Update - Jul 31st 2012
Feature Matches

The 2012 London Olympics are in full swing, and besides all the regular Olympic coverage, the Lions is featuring all of the football live!  This weeks action kicks off early on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday.  TheUnited States Women face North Korea at 10am today, knowing a win here will win the group for them.  They are of course assured a spot in the second round, but a win against our stubborn Cold War rivals will surely be enjoyable to watch.  Later in the day the Great Britain Womens side take onBrazil in an appetizing lunchtime affair.  There are two other Tuesday matches of note, with the New York Red Bulls in a club friendly against theTottenham Hotspur (5pm),  and Salt Lake taking onHerediano of Cost Rica in CONCACAF Champions League (8pm).  Never been a fan of or even heard of Herediano, but Ill be rooting for them tonight against our "friends" from Utah.

Wednesday brings us the final group stage games for the Mens bracket, starting early with Brazil taking on New Zealand.  The Brazilians look to be the favorites to take the Gold, having put on some dazzling displays of football in their first two matches.  Our CONCACAF representatives kick off a bit later, with Mexico facingSwitzerland and Honduras battling Japan at 10am.  Both sides look poised to advance to the medal round, which bodes well for our region.  In the afternoon the hopes of host nation Great Britain will be decided, as they face off against a desperate Uruguayan side for a place in the medal round.  A win or a tie will see Great Britain through, and the possibility of winning the group is still on the table for the Brits.

Thursday we have three matches of note.  Liverpool begins qualification for the Europa League at lunchtime, followed by two evening matches. Seattle kicks off their CCL campaign, while the L.A. Galaxy take onReal Madrid in a Club Friendly.

Friday and Saturday morning the Lions will be featuring the second round of Olympic football, and MLS football features in the evening.  Our Colorado Rapids take on Rocky Mountain rivalsSalt Lake, with a home match Saturday night (7pm).  The Rapids are beyond due for a result, and a win against our rivals could be a major turning point for Coach Parejas struggling side.  Lets get out in support of our Burgundy Boys as they try to turn around their season.   The Bulldog Supporters Group will be running buses up to the match from the Pub, and hosting a tailgate out at the park (reservations can be made at www.bulldogsupporters.com).  Immediately following this match, the Three Lions will be hosting our One year Anniversary Party Benefit show (see below), featuring the Maynard Mills Blues Band, and supporting America Scores Denver. Come on down and help us celebrate a terrific first year, while supporting a great cause!

Sunday morning starts early with a Manchester United friendly, followed by full coverage of the Olympics throughout the day.  Sunday evening we have three back to back matches, with the feature game pitting Seattle v the L.A. Galaxy.  Both sides are in the hunt for the MLS playoffs, and this should be a good one.  We finish our gameweek Monday with the Womens Semifinal Olympic matches kicking off at 10am and 12:45pm.
