Feature Matches
This second week of August brings us more than a few feature matches of note, and plenty of terrific peripheral action.  Today we have theMens Olympic Semifinals, featuring one of our regional representatives Mexico at 10am, and tournament favorites Brazil at 12:30pm.  Both sides face the class of Asia, Japan and S. Korea, for a chance at Olympic Gold.  Those of you that were lucky enough to catch theU.S. Womens National Team play in the Semis against Canada on Monday, know that the Americans take on Japan in the Womens Gold Medal Match this Thursday at 12:30pm.  Not only was their Monday victory epic in terms of style and drama, but now the chance is on the table for retribution, for an American side that lost to Japan in the 2011 World Cup Final.  If you love football, you have to admire the never say die attitude of our U.S. Womens team.  With their backs against the wall more than once in the Semifinal, their mentality and sheer willpower made the difference at the end of the day.   The Pub will be open early for this must see match, and the atmosphere should be tremendous as we cheer our U.S. Women on to Gold!
Backpedalling a bit, we have a few good matches to look forward to on Wednesday as well.  Manchester United take onBarcelona in a lunchtime Club Friendly.  The history these two Clubs have had recently should make this a well contested match, as both Clubs tune up for the beginning of their 2012/13 European campaigns.  Later in the evening our feature match will be the U.S. Open Cup Final between Sporting K.C. and the Seattle Sounders.  This is the first piece of domestic silverware up for grabs in 2012.  SKC holds home field advantage, as the Final is being contested at Livestrong Park, but Seattle has been the team to beat in this competition.  Kick off is at 7pm, and the match will be played live with volume on the balcony (trivia will be in the main bar).
Saturday we have two feature matches to look forward to, with the Mens Olympic Gold Medal match kicking off at 8am, and our ColoradoRapids taking on Dallas in a dinnertime Western Conference battle.  The Rapids managed to end their six game losing skid against arch rivals Salt Lake, and will be looking to build on that result, as they fight to climb back up the table.  Dallas is always tough at home, due to the sweltering Summertime heat and humidity away sides must deal with at Pizza Hut Park.  Kick off is at 7pm, and $3.50 Coors Lights and $5.50 Carlsbergs will be available during the match.
Early Sunday morning 2011/12 FA Cup Champions Chelsea take on reigning English Premier League Champions Manchester City in the Community Shield Match (6:30am KO).  This match, held a week before the EPL kicks off, is the first chance at silverware for these two Champion sides.  The Lions will be serving full breakfast and featuring our weekend football Happy Hour for this kick off to the European season.
On the Horizon
Next week the USMNT travels to Estadio Azteca, where they have never managed a win, to take on arch rivals Mexico.  The 2012/13English Premier League and La Liga seasons commence next weekend, and our Colorado Rapids are at home toChivas!
