World Football Update - Sep 3rd 2012
Feature Matches
Our Colorado Rapids return home Wednesday evening, as they try to pick themselves up and dust themselves off from a tough loss in Portland last Friday. The Rapids face the Timbers again, in this return leg of a home and away, and can pull off the bottom of the table with a win. The match is nationally televised, and it would be great to see a decent crowd at the park, even though the team is struggling for results right now. The Bulldog Supporters Group will be running buses up to the match, and tickets and reservations are available .
Club football will be taking an International break (for the most part) over the weekend, with a full slate ofWorld Cup Qualifiers set for Friday and the following Tuesday. The USMNT has a home and away series scheduled against the Reggae Boyz ofJamaica, with our local hero Omar Cummings suiting up for his home country. Friday nights USMNT World Cup Qualifier kicks off at 6pm, and falls into our regular Friday night Happy Hour, so there will be some great specials available. Get down to the Pub early to nab a good seat, and enjoy a few libations before this important regional clash kicks off.
A byproduct of BEIN Sports, Al Jazeeras new football network, is full coverage ofCONMEBOL and CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers. They have essentially eliminated the Pay Per View on these games, so you will notice plenty of Qualifiers from South America and our region are now available. This is great news for football fans, and these matches will be featured during our Friday Happy Hour as a lead up to the U.S. game. Due to the International break there is very little World Football featured on the weekend, which gives everyone the opportunity to enjoy the pointy ended version of the game.
On the Horizon
Another huge International day of World Cup Qualifying falls on Tuesday, with club football returning next weekend. The Rapids travel to L.A. to face theGalaxy in another prime time Friday night match, and we will be open early Saturday and Sunday for European Club football.
