World Football Update - Oct 1st 2012
Feature Matches

It is officially Fall here in beautiful Colorado, and this first week of October features some terrific World Football!  The UEFA Champions League is set for the second round of Group Stage matches, with lunchtime kickoffs set for Tuesday and Wednesday.   The Lions will be open both days at 10am, as there are two matches scheduled in Russia that kick off early. Spartak Moscow host Celtic in Tuesdays early match, and the Scots know full well a result here will be crucial to advancing from a difficult group.  Some of the other big clubs in action Tuesday includeManchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich,JuventusBenfica, and Barcelona.  Wednesday starts early withAC Milan travelling to Zenit St. Petersburg Ajax hostReal Madrid, kicking off at lunchtime, and our feature match of the day pitsManchester City against Borussia Dortmund.  Three Lions Curries are on special both Tuesday and Wednesday for only $7.50, so dont miss the chance to enjoy some great food and top tier football!

Saturdays action starts early, with Manchester City kicking off against Sunderland at 5:45am MST.  Chelsea andEverton are both in action in the 8am slot, followed by our EPL match of the day, betweenWest Ham and Arsenal.  This London derby has always been hotly contested, and both sides are off to a good start in their league campaigns.  The rest of the days coverage will be devoted to the MLS, with ourColorado Rapids facing Western Conference leaders San Jose in their second to last home match of the season.  The Rapids are technically hanging on to playoff hopes by a thread, needing nine points out of their last three matches, and an absolute implosion from both Dallas and Vancouver.   Although highly unlikely, anything is possible in this beautiful game of ours.  The Bulldog Supporters Group will be running bus shuttles from the Pub for this home match (reservations can be made here: www.bulldogsupporters.com ).  Lets get out and show our boys some proper support in these last two matches, and have a great time doing it!

Sunday is a massive day of football with more than a few mouth watering fixtures on tap.  The first big match of the day kicks off at 9am, withManchester United taking on Newcastle in an EPL clash.  United was stung by the Spurs at home this past week, and now face a difficult test away against the Geordies.  This leads us to our Match of the Week,El Clasico, as Barcelona hostReal Madrid in league play.  Barcelona is off to a ripping start, with six wins and no losses or draws so far.  Madrid stumbled a bit in the beginning of the campaign, and they now find themselves trailing their rivals by eight points with only six matches played.  A win for Barca here could see them with an eleven point advantage over Madrid, who have more than enough to worry about in a La Liga that is far more competitive than in years past.  It is no longer a two horse race here with teams like Malaga, Atletico Madrid, Mallorca, andSevilla presenting a real challenge to both Barca and Madrid.  The match kicks off at noon, and the atmosphere should be tremendous at the Pub as these two rivals battle it out!  The weekend finishes with a terrific MLS matchup, as the Seattle Sounders host the Portland Timbers with the Cascadia Cup on the line.  This rivalry has developed into one of the best in the MLS, and the passionate fans of both Clubs can be thanked for that.  The match kicks off at 7pm, and will be featured with volume!

On the Horizon

Next week Club football takes a break both domestically and abroad, as World Cup Qualifiers take center stage.  There will be some eliminations from contention for the 2014 World Cup, and the USMNT will try to lock their spot in the next qualification round with a win over Antigua Barbuda Friday evening.
