Feature Matches

All eyes will be on the CONCACAF region, as the World Cup Qualification process continues this Tuesday. There are qualification matches from all over the World, but in CONCACAF there will be teams eliminated from contention for the 2014 Cup. Qualifying from our region has continued to become more difficult, as many National team players from the region are plying their trade overseas, or in leagues like MLS and the Mexican Primera. The days action starts early, with a handful of matches in Europe. Our feature lunchtime fixture pits World Champions Spain against old foes, and neighbors, France. Both sides sit tied in points atop Group I, and with only one team guaranteed advancement from the Group, this will be a pivotal match in the qualification process.

Our first big CONCACAF regional match of the day is a Group C clash between Honduras andCanada (2pm kickoff). The Canadians, who have not been to the World Cup since 1986, can advance to the hexagonal with a win or a draw. Theyll have their work cut out for them, as they face Honduras away, and theyll be without the services of Captain Dwayne De Rosario. This match, along with some South American Qualifiers, leads us to our match of the day, a Group A battle between theUSMNT and Guatemala. The U.S. face Guatemala at home, with everything on the line. A win or a tie, and the Stars and Stripes advance to the next stage, keeping their World Cup hopes alive. A loss here, and all our hopes rest on the outcome of Jamaicas match against Antigua Barbuda (the U.S. has a 3pt advantage in points and goal differential). To their advantage, the Americans will be at home in front of a raucous crowd in Kansas City. The match kicks off at 5pm, but if you can manage to ditch work early it will be well worth it. The Lions will be featuring Happy Hour pricing throughout the game, and we are expecting a large passionate crowd to support our boys, including a guest appearance byHunter Freeman of the Colorado Rapids! Immediately following the U.S. game, Mexico face El Salvador in another pivotal fixture. El Tri is through already, with a dominant performance in qualifying, while El Salvador pin their hopes on defeating Mexico (and hoping Costa Rica lose). At the end of the day there will be some very disappointed teams, whose World Cup hopes and dreams have been shattered more than a year away from the Final.

Club football coverage resumes Wednesday evening, with an enticing MLS fixture between Seattle andSalt Lake. The playoff battle is nearly locked up in the West, and now teams are fighting for position. These two sides are separated by a mere three points, as they battle for second place in the West. Other big MLS matches of the week includeSporting K.C. against the New York Red Bulls, and D.C. United vColumbus. It is a real dogfight in the East, with only SKC and Chicago having locked down a post season berth. Columbus find themselves on the outside looking in, guaranteeing some exciting football as the season winds down. Our Colorado Rapids play their second to the last game of the 2012 Campaign Saturday night againstChivas (8:30pm kickoff), and the Spanish broadcast for the match will be coming live from Three Lions. So if you want to have some fun, and possibly get on TV, join us in support of our hometown club!

The weekend features Club football from Europe, starting early Saturday morning withTottenham taking on Chelsea at White Hart Lane. Chelsea are undefeated in League play, and this will be a big test for them away. This match is followed by a full day of football, including EPL, La Liga, and MLS.
