Feature Matches
There is plenty of great football on tap at the Lions each and every day this week!West Bromwich Albion, who have been one of the Premierships pleasant surprises this season, take onSouthampton with a lunchtime kick off Monday afternoon. Tuesday and Wednesday bring us a full compliment of UEFA Champions League football at lunchtime, and Thursday is full of Europa League action.
Tuesday our feature matches are Real Madrid v Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City v Ajax,AC Milan v Malaga, and Schalke v Arsenal. Wednesday we have Celtic v Barcelona, Chelsea v Shakhtar Donetsk, Braga v Manchester United, and Bayern Munich v Lille. You may notice that all the Champions League fixtures this week are mirror images of the fixtures that were played two weeks ago, so for the teams that lost a fortnight ago they have a chance at redemption here. Thursdays Europa League action kicks off early (10am) with Liverpool travelling to Anzhi.Newcastle, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, andTottenham round out the afternoon against their respective opponents.
The real mid week story is happening here domestically, with the 2nd Leg of the MLS Conference Semifinals taking place Wednesday and Thursday nights. Wednesday the action starts at 6pm, with D.C. United making the short trek to NYC to face the New York Red Bulls. The series is tied on aggregate with both teams scoring a single goal in the first leg. At 7pmSporting K.C. play host to the Houston Dynamo. The Dynamo hold a two goal aggregate advantage after holding Sporting scoreless down in Texas. SKC will have their work cut out for them to overcome the deficit, but they will have the advantage of tremendous home support this time. Wednesdays late kick off has the defending ChampionL.A. Galaxy travelling to Buck Shaw stadium to face Supporters Shield winners San Jose. San Jose managed to grab a one goal aggregate advantage off a late free kick in the first leg, and they will be very difficult for the Galaxy to break down at home. Wednesday is our trivia night at the Pub, so we will be featuring all of the MLS playoff action upstairs with volume, and trivia will go on as scheduled downstairs. Specials that evening include $3.50 14oz Fat Tire, $3.50 20oz Coors Light, and $5.50 20oz Carlsberg. Thursday night we have one MLS Conference Semifinal to feature, withReal Salt Lake hosting Seattle in the second leg of their series. The first leg ended in a scoreless tie, which puts the Sounders at a disadvantage, as they would have loved to carry a lead into Rio Tinto. This match kicks off at 7:30pm MST. Look for the Conference Finals to begin Saturday and Sunday, as we await to find out who will survive to play for a spot in the2012 MLS Cup Final.
The weekend also features plenty of European football, starting Friday afternoon with Bundesliga, Ligue 1, La Liga, and Championship football. Saturdays feature matches kick off at 8am, with a full compliment of EPL matches. Sunday we have a big morning, starting early with Manchester city hosting the Tottenham Hotspur (6:30am ko). At 8amNewcastle host West Ham, and at 9am our EPL match of the week kicks off withChelsea hosting Liverpool. Both Barcelona and Real Madrid are in action Sunday morning and afternoon, and again we finish the day with the MLS Conference Final.
On the Horizon
We have an International break midweek, with the USMNT taking on Russia, and the Netherlands facingGermany amongst other matches. The weekend is full of European and Domestic football, with the highlight being the conclusion of the MLS Conference Finals scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
