World Football Update - Dec 12th 2012
Feature Matches
Anyone that was at the Pub last Sunday morning was treated to three terrific EPL matches, with all three being decided in the waning moments of the match. This is a great time of year for football, as the players are in form, the Clubs are in a dogfight for position in the table, and the games are coming fast and furious. This weeks action starts this afternoon, with a League Cup Quarterfinal between Bradford City andArsenal, and a make up match in the EPL for Sunderland and Reading. Our other midweek highlights includeBarcelona and Real Madrid in the Copa Del Rey tournament on Wednesday, aanother League Cup Quarterfinal between Swansea and Middlesborough, and the USWNT taking on China in a Wednesday evening Friendly.
The weekend starts early Saturday morning with Newcastle hostingManchester City, with both sides coming off of disappointing results from the previous week. There will be aTravel Channel television show filming at the Lions during the second half of this match, and during the beginning of the 8am fixtures (see below for more info). Our 8am matches feature Manchester United, Liverpool,Villa, QPR, Fulham, and Sunderland, so dont miss the opportunity to come out and support your side, and get on TV. Oddly there is no live 10:30am fixture, but we will be showing Stoke vEverton on tape delay at 10am. In the early evening we have the USWNT back in action against the Chinese to finish their three game series. Hey China we have one word for you here in the States.... Freedom!!!!
Sunday has a nice straight run of football starting at 6:30am with Tottenham taking onSwansea, and stretching well into the afternoon. Other highlight matches Sunday includeWest Brom battling West Ham at 9am, and Barcelona taking onAtletico Madrid in the afternoon. Our gameweek finishes Monday with an EPL fixture between Reading andArsenal that kicks off at 1pm.
Finally I wanted to bring attention to the most amazing footballer of our time, Lionel Messi, as he broke Gerd Mullers all time record for goals scored in a calendar year last weekend (86). It is incredible to be able to watch a living legend week in and week out, and to know that (even though he has broken so many records at a young age) there is so much more to come from Leo!
On the Horizon
Midweek well have Barcelona and Real Madrid in the Copa Del Rey, the League Cup Quarterfinals from England, and La Liga and Ligue 1. On the weekend we have a full schedule of World Football with an emphasis on EPL and La Liga.

Berts Booze Cruise: Saturday morning, the 15th of December, the Travel Channel will be in Three Lions filming a portion of an upcoming episode of Berts Booze Cruise (think Dave Attels Insomniac but for the Travel Channel). The idea is to capture a bit of the passion associated with World Football, and feature the people who love it (all of us nuts who enjoy good beer, good company, and good football at the Lions), on a typical Saturday morning at the Pub. Since there are no major matchups that morning (they will be filming from 7-9am), we are asking any of you that are passionate, and want to show your love for the game, to come down and be a part of this unique experience. The early match is Newcastle v Manchester City, which should be a great game, so even if you dont support either side show your love for the game (and the Lions) by coming down to watch the second half (should start around 6:45am). Our 8am fixtures feature Manchester United, Liverpool, Fulham, QPR, Sunderland, and Villa, so if those are your teams be sure to drop in and represent. This will be a great chance to show your love for the game, for the team you support, for the Pub, and you will likely be featured on TV, as Bert will be interviewing random fans. Dont forget Happy Hour runs from 7-11am, hope you can join us. Cheers!
