World Football Update - Dec 18th 2012
Feature Matches
Happy Holidays to all of our friends here in Denver, and around the World! We have loads of great football to look forward to over the Holiday season, with Cup competitions heating up and league play falling both midweek and on the weekends. We start our game week with two Cup matches. Tuesday Inter Milan faces Hellas Verona, as they try to continue their Cup run. Inter is fresh off a loss to Lazio on the weekend. Wednesday, Leeds is at home toChelsea in a League Cup Quarterfinal. Three teams have booked their spots in the Semifinals,Swansea, Aston Villa, and Bradford City, with only one spot remaining. Neil Warnock, the Leeds manager, has a personal rowe with Rafa Benitez of Chelsea, which should add a bit of fuel to the fire. Leeds is keen to return to former glory, having recently been purchased by some very wealthy investors, while Chelsea look to rebound from their loss in the FIFA Club World Cup last Sunday.
La Liga, Serie A, and Ligue 1, fill out the midweek schedule. Serie A leaders Juventus travel to faceCagliari Friday afternoon, and La Ligas second place team, Atletico Madrid host Celta Vigo in the late afternoon.
A massive football Saturday is on the books at the Lions this week, starting early withArsenal travelling to Wigan (5:45am kickoff). The Gunners cant take this one lightly, as theyre still reeling from their Cup quarterfinal defeat to Bradford City. Arsenal has yet to find any sort of consistency, although a resounding win at Reading on Monday helped to heal their wounds a bit. Fourth in the tableTottenham take on Stoke City as our feature 8am match. Despite being at home, the Spurs must be wary of the Potters, who sit ninth in the table only five points behind their foes on the day.Barcelona kick off at 10am this week, which is early for La Liga, as the faceReal Vallodolid. Little Leo Messi has not only scored in all of his last eight starts, but he has managed to tally a brace in each of those games as well. Can anyone stop this man from finding the back of the net? Our 10:30am kickoff features Liverpool against Fulham. Both sides had dismal results last weekend, and they both sit in the bottom half of the table, making this a key battle for three points.Malaga, who sit fourth in La Liga, host Real Madrid at noon. Madrid holds a five point advantage over Malaga in the table, and will be keen to extend that lead and close on cross town rivals Atletico in the table. This should be a great lunchtime matchup.
Sunday morning kicks off at 6:30am, with Swansea hosting League Leaders Manchester United. The Swans have been strong, and could play foil to this very consistent United side.Chelsea returns to EPL action, taking on Aston Villa in the 9am slot. Villa surprised Liverpool last week with a dominant performance, and may be set to continue their winning ways against the Blues. AmericanBrad Guzan plys his trade with Villa, and has been in fine form of late.
Cheers, and remember if you get tired of shopping and need some respite, stop in during one of our Happy Hours to enjoy a quality Draught!
