Feature Matches
The 2nd Leg of the Champions League and Europa League Semifinals take center stage Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of this week!  In the Champions League Real Madrid and Barcelona are back at home, and they both face a monumental task to advance.  Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich look set to move on to the Final on May 25th, but this is Champions League, and anything can happen (see Liverpool 2005).  Anyway you look at it, these two Spanish sides will not go down without a fight, which should make for some great football!  Thursday lunchtime we have the Europa League Semifinals with Chelsea holding a 2-1 aggregate advantage over Basel, and Fenerbahce holding a 1-0 advantage over Benfica.  Both matches kick off simultaneously at 1pm.  Wednesday evening is the 2nd leg of the CONCACAF Champions League Final with Monterrey hosting Santos Laguna.  The two sides are tied on aggregate 0-0, and although there is no MLS team represented here, USMNT regular Hercules Gomez runs up front for Santos.
We start the weekend with live action from the English Premier League, where the fight for position is bound to go down to the wire.  Four Clubs are in a dog fight at the top of the table to earn one of the available Champions League berths.  Chelsea sit in third with a one point advantage over Arsenal, and an all important game in hand.  Arsenal currently hold fourth, but find themselves in a precarious spot, with Spurs and Everton breathing down their neck.  Tottenham are two points back of the Gunners, but also hold a game in hand on their North London rivals.  Everton are the dark horse here, but still have a legit chance at the top four, as they sit on 59 points.  Sunday morning we have two great matches back to back with Liverpool taking on Everton in the Merseyside derby, and Chelsea facing Manchester United.  Both fixtures could have massive implications on the fight for position at the top of the table.  At the bottom of the table, Wigan are in the hot seat (32 points), with their only saving grace being a game in hand on their three closest rivals.  That means their match against West Brom on Saturday is of huge importance for them, as a win will put them right back in the fight.  Newcastle, Villa, and Sunderland are on the cusp of relegation as well (37 points), leaving little room for error for any of them.
Our Colorado Rapids return to Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Saturday night to take on East Coast bottom feeders Toronto FC.  This is a great opportunity for the Rapids to nab three points, and bolster their confidence a bit.  The return of Pablo Mastroeni and Martin Rivero against Houston last weekend was a welcome sight to Rapids fans, and should be a boost to the squad moving forward.  Shuttles will be running from the Pub, so lets get out in support of our hometown boys!  (Shuttle reservations can be made at
One last thing of note, Barcelona look set to wrap up the 2012/13 La Liga title at home with a 1pm kick off Sunday afternoon.  Cheers all, have a great week!
On the Horizon
Midweek we have a big Wednesday with Chelsea taking on Tottenham in the EPL, and then a big night of MLS matchups.  On the weekend the 2013 FA Cup Final kicks off Saturday morning, and the Colorado Rapids travel to Columbus to face the Crew!
