Anticipation is building for the 2013/14 Champions League Final this Saturday afternoon, with Real Madrid set to face Atletico Madrid!  This will be the first time in the history of the European Cup that two teams from the same city will face each other in the Final.  If Real win they will be the first side to reach double digits in European Cup wins, as this would be their tenth title.  Atletico beat Real in the Copa Del Rey Final last year, erasing thirteen years of misery against their crosstown rivals.  They have had the edge since that time, losing only two of their last six encounters against Real.  Atletico's Manager, Diego Simeone, has accomplished more with less resources than any other European manager this year.  On the other side Carlo Ancelotti has guided Real to the Final in fine style, and has produced a side with a truly fearsome counterpunching attack.  It would be heart wrenching for Real to have the chance at their tenth title, Les Decima, erased by Simeone and Atleti, yet all the more glorious to win against their rivals!  The question remains, what does Atletico have left in the tank after the exultation of winning the La Liga title last week? Expect an intense match, fueled by this great rivalry!

Earlier Saturday morning, five hours before the kick off of the Champions League Final, there is another match of great importance, the Championship Playoff Final.  The winner of this match, to be played at Wembley Stadium, earns a promotion to the Premiership for the 2014/15 season!  The Final pits Queens Park Rangers against Derby County, with an 8am kickoff.  Described as the most expensive game in World Football, due to the amount of money on the line for promotion, every inch of this match will be contested.  Adding a bit of drama to the proceedings, Managers Steve Mclaren (Derby) and Harry Redknapp (QPR) worked together earlier in the season.  Despite their desire to advance to the Prem, these two Gents consider themselves close friends, and at the end of the day there will be much respect!

To finish a tremendous day of football, our Colorado Rapids return home to face the Montreal Impact at DSG!  Buses will be departing from the Pub shortly after the conclusion of the Champions League Final, giving World Football fans a chance to get out and support our hometown Club.  The Rapids have had a string of poor results, putting greater emphasis on earning three points here at home against Montreal!

Other upcoming events at Three Lions include a viewing party for the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Monaco Sunday morning (6am).  Next week (Thurs. May 29th 5:30pm-7pm) we are hosting a Happy Hour tasting (Prost Brewing, Patron, and Crabbies Ginger Beer), and ticketing launch for the World Football in film Festival (June 5th-8th) http://www.denverfilm.org/filmcenter/detail.aspx?id=26567&FID=82.
