Rapids respond with win in DC
Clutch goal from Ballouchy ends troublesome streak.
May 17th 2010

The Colorado Rapids snapped both a two-game losing streak and an 11-year winless streak at RFK Stadium by defeating a struggling DC United squad in the nations capital.

Mehdi Ballouchy scored in the 67th minute with a hooking shot that befuddled Uniteds rookie keeper Bill Hamid. The Moroccans goal was his second of the season, and proved to be the winner as Colorados defense helped Matt Pickens to his second shutout of the campaign.

Colorado once again controlled possession with a bevy of passes, but failed to find a finishing touch that could have turned the match into a blowout.

With the win, the Rapids improved to 4-1-3, and their 13 points are good enough to be locked into a four-way tie for second place in the Western Conference. DC continues their franchise-worst start that has seen them net only one win in eight games.

Back at The Bulldog, the BSG had a great time as many regulars met up for the watch party. As per usual, singing, chanting, and drinking were the perfect compliment to a Rapids win.

The Rapids resume play May 26th against New York in a US Open Cup draw at Red Bull Arena.
